Papua Trekking

Trekking in Papua is incredible. The roads are limited in Papua so if you really want to see this beautiful country, you have to do it on foot.  By trekking Papua you will really immerse yourself in the local way of life, walking past villages, crossing rivers on small foot bridges, climb rainforest trails and pass by the sweet potato fields. It is advised to always trek with a guide as there are no signposts and it is very easy to get lost. Depending on how keen you are you can easily trek for over a week. Between Jan and March it is often a bit muddier making the trekking more difficult. Most villages will welcome you for an overnight stay, however be prepared to sleep on the floor and it can get cold in the evenings. The best trekking is in the southern part of Baliem Valley. Even if you just enjoy one day trekking, it is worth it for the experience and a true understanding of Papua.
